Filmregisseur, Autor, Dozent

1952 in Berlin geboren, Studium der Germanistik und Politologie, arbeitet seit 1983 als freier Filmemacher für verschiedene Fernsehsender. Lebt in Berlin.

Nachdem seine Filme anfänglich im Bereich des experimentellen Videos und Dokumentarfilms angesiedelt waren, hat er sich später im Genre des Video- bzw. Filmtanzes spezialisiert.

Auf dem Hintergrund seiner eigenen Tanzpraxis (Contact Improvisation) sind u.a folgende Tanzfilmproduktionen entstanden: „Der Gehängte im Garten der Venus“, „Angelus Novus“, „Olga‘s Solo“, „Kontakt Triptychon“, für den er beim Grand Prix Video Danse, Paris 1992, für die Kameraarbeit ausgezeichnet wurde.

Sein Spielfilm KÖNIGSKINDER (2001) lief u.a. auf dem Max Ophüls Festival und wurde beim Festival International du Film Indépendant Brüssel 2003 für seine ‚innovative Filmsprache’ prämiert. „Frankfurt Dance Cuts“ (2004), 4 Kurzfilme mit Tänzern des Ballett Frankfurt von Bill Forsythe lief im Oktober 2005 als deutscher Beitrag im Rahmen des ARTE Festivals ‚Temps d’Images’ in der Villa Medici in Rom.

Kollaborationen in Film- und Bühnen-Projekten mit dem Tanztheater Rubato (‚Angelus Novus’), der Tanzfabrik Berlin, den ChoreographInnen Rui Horta (‚Olgas Solo’), Frederik Flamand (‚Silent Collisions’ 2003), Jackie Taffanel, Hush Hush Hush (‚2Pack’), Mark Tompkins (u.a. ‚Plaque Tournante 1991, ‚Gravity‘ 1996, ‚Extension’ 1999, ‚Song & Dance’ 2005), Juan Kruz Diaz de Garaio Esnaola (‚Königskinder’ 2001), Dieter Heitkamp (‚Kontakt Triptychon’ 1992, ‚Augenblicklicht‘ 1995, ‚Y NOT‘ 1996, ‚Bildbeschreibung’ 2003, Dom Projekt ‚Das Blaue Fleisch’ Frankfurt 2004), Prue Lang, Alan Barnes, Jone San Martin, Vanessa LeMat vom Ballett Frankfurt (‚Frankfurt Dance Cuts’ 2004) und Ismael Ivo (2005/07).

Er unterrrichtet an Kunsthochschulen und Theaterakademien, u.a. ‚Physical Cinema Workshops’ für MedienkünstlerInnen, FilmemacherInnen, TänzerInnen und ChoreographInnen.
2002/03 war er Gastprofessor für audiovisuelle Gestaltung an der FH Mainz,
zZ unterrichtet er regelmäßig als Gastdozent an der Palucca Schule Dresden.

Lutz Gregor ist ‘associated teacher’ im D.A.N.C.E Programm unter der künstlerischen Leitung von Frédéric Flamand, William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor und Angelin Preljocaj.

Biography

freelanced filmdirector, media artist, lecturer.

Born in Berlin 1952, lives in Köln, Germany.

Since 1983 he established himself in the sphere of experimental documentaries and became later especially interested in the connection between film and dance. Several dance film productions have resulted from his own dance practice, Contact Improvisation.

His films include: Kontakt Triptychon (1992) – winner of a cinematography award at the Grand Prix Vidéo Dance Paris in 1992, Königskinder (2001), a full length feature film, screened at the Max Ophüls Festival in Saarbrücken (2002) and awarded at the Festival International du Film Indépendant Brussels 2003 for his new cinematographic themes and language, Frankfurt Dance Cuts (2005), selected for ARTEs Festival Temps d’Images 2005 and shown at Villa Medici Rome.

Recent works include the documentary series „People in the Wind“ (2007 arte) and the FilmDance Installation „Maps of Emotion“ (2007).
As part of the Biennale di Venezia/Danza he created video installations for the project Choreographic Collisions, artistic direction by Ismael Ivo (2008).

He teaches „Physical Cinema“ in workshops and at universities and art academies all over Europe, 2002/03 as guest professor for audiovisual design at the University of Applied Sciences, Dept. Media Design (IMG Mainz), currently at Palucca Dance School (Dresden).
